The Gorbals tower blocks, were designed by architect Sir Basil Spence and built in 1962. Their aim was to improve the local area. But while at first families were pleased to be out of the slums and given a new place to live, it appeared that history was repeating itself in The Gorbals. The final tower blocks were demolished in 2008. I arrived early and waited with several others to watch the demolition. Some watching had spent their entire lives with these buildings as their home, such as Sarah, with whom I chatted . She had never seen a photograph of herself. So I took this photo of her in front of her lifelong home. Later that week I printed it and dropped it off to her for a keepsake. The demolition took quite a while to happen and my camera battery was about to run out. I managed to snap two photos. After the demolition a huge dust cloud rushed towards us. The street and sky hidden by the clouds.
